Our world is filled with many amazing and unique natural phenomena. Waterfalls are a striking example. Many of them awe us with their beauty, power, and grandeur. The crystal-clear water crashing from great heights, sparkling in the sunlight and breaking into tiny droplets, creates a truly stunning spectacle that you can admire for hours.

You don’t need to leave Cyprus to see a beautiful waterfall. The island boasts dozens of waterfalls, and no two are alike. Each one has its own special charm. While there are many waterfalls to discover, we've chosen five of the most iconic — those that will take your breath away and make your social media followers green with envy.

Kalidonia Waterfall

Kalidonia Waterfall is one of the most famous and tallest waterfalls in Cyprus (12 meters). It is located in the Troodos Mountains, near the village of Platres. The easiest way to reach the waterfall is to hike from the trout farm located in the area known as "Psilo Dendro." There is a great restaurant near the farm. If you decide to dine there, make sure to order their signature dish — fresh grilled trout. It’s absolutely delicious!

The trail to the waterfall is not particularly easy but very rewarding. The path runs along the Cryos Potamos River, through dense forests, offering breathtaking views along the way. You’ll encounter centuries-old pines, oaks, strawberry trees, and alder trees. The untouched natural surroundings make this place even more beautiful!

The distance to the waterfall is just 2 kilometers, and it takes about an hour to reach it.

An interesting story is linked to the name of the waterfall. In the 19th century, Platres was a popular resort for the British colonial administration, including Scots who, enchanted by the beauty of the local landscape, named the waterfall "Caledonia" in honor of the ancient name of Scotland.

Kremiotis Waterfall

Located 15 kilometers from Paphos is the village of Kritou Terra, surrounded on three sides by mountains, within which hides one of Cyprus' most picturesque waterfalls – Kremiotis. The waterfall is fed by the river of the same name. Once a mighty river, it now only fills up in winter and spring.

The area is truly unique and reminds one of the Amazon valley! To reach Kremiotis, you'll need to take a good hike. On the way, you’ll encounter a small cascade, but don't think that’s the final stop. The most interesting part of the waterfall is well-hidden.

Kremiotis consists of two parts: one is inconspicuous, while the other is a picturesque waterfall, with mountain water spilling over moss-covered stones and the slopes of the Troodos Mountains. You can reach this part via a newly built bridge, but if you're looking for adventure, we recommend wearing sturdy shoes and taking along a towel and a waterproof phone case. The last 100 meters involve crawling over rocks to get directly under the waterfall, where the water cascades all around you.

This place was once only known to locals and nature enthusiasts until photographs of Kremiotis surfaced on social media. Since then, hundreds of visitors flock to this tiny village weekly to witness the breathtaking scene.

Millomeris Waterfall

Standing at 15 meters, Millomeris Waterfall is the tallest waterfall in Cyprus. It’s located near Platres, and you can reach it either by car or by taking the walking trail that starts in the village. The descent to the base of the waterfall is very scenic, with a rocky path that, in places, runs along the edge of a cliff. But thanks to wooden railings, it's perfectly safe.

The name "Millomeris" means "damp place" in Greek, though some Cypriots believe it was named after a mill that once stood at the base of the waterfall.

Until recently, this waterfall wasn’t very popular with tourists or locals due to the difficult road leading to it. However, a couple of years ago, the local municipality improved the area by clearing rocks and constructing a bridge to make it easier to cross the riverbed.

Millomeris is especially stunning in the spring when it's at full flow and surrounded by greenery. The surrounding area is a true paradise, perfect for relaxing in the shade of pines and cypresses while enjoying the lush ivy and plants. You might even spot some wildlife, including lizards, rabbits, squirrels, chameleons, or even a golden eagle. The brave can take a dip in the pool at the base of the waterfall — it’s a refreshing experience!

Prastio-Avdimou Waterfall

Located between the villages of Prastio and Avdimou in the area of Kliufas, Prastio-Avdimou Waterfall is perfect for those who want to explore something new and enjoy Cyprus' natural beauty away from the crowds. This waterfall is unique because it only "flows" in rainy winters when enough water accumulates. So, those who get the chance to witness the cascading water are truly fortunate.

Imagine water falling from a height of 25 meters, cascading over a semi-circular rock ledge and nourishing the valley below. It’s an incredible sight! What’s even more remarkable is that the water flowing into the waterfall comes from underground springs.

The surrounding area is a great spot for picnics and outdoor relaxation. You can easily drive from Limassol to the waterfall, passing through beautiful rural areas. The last part of the journey is a short hike along a trail that leads directly to the waterfall.

Adonis Waterfall

Located in the western part of Cyprus, in the Paphos region, Adonis Waterfall is one of the most picturesque and romantic natural attractions on the island. The waterfall is steeped in myth, with its origins tied to the ancient Greek god of beauty and passion, Adonis. Local legend has it that Adonis and the goddess Aphrodite spent much of their time in this area, and it’s believed that the water of the waterfall has healing properties, capable of granting youth and beauty.

Adonis Waterfall is a multi-tiered cascade that spills into a small, crystal-clear lake. Surrounded by dense greenery and rocks, the waterfall creates an atmosphere of tranquility and seclusion — making it an ideal spot for relaxation or a romantic date. You can not only enjoy swimming in the cool water but also have a picnic in the surrounding nature. There are rest areas with benches and tables near the waterfall. For hiking enthusiasts, there are picturesque trails around Adonis Waterfall, offering views of local flora and fauna.

A visit to Adonis Waterfall is sure to leave you with unforgettable memories and positive emotions.
