As the new tourist season approaches, Cyprus is actively preparing to welcome international visitors, focusing on enhancing both comfort and safety — especially at the island’s key entry points: Larnaca and Paphos airports.
Following recent complaints about long queues at passport control in spring, the Cyprus Police have deployed additional officers to both airports. On April 1st, five flights — including a delayed arrival — landed simultaneously in Paphos, resulting in over 750 passengers waiting at passport control. A similar issue occurred on March 29th, with the airport processing 17 arrivals and 14 departures in a single day — stretching the airport’s capacity to its limits.
To avoid repeating such incidents, 16 new officers have been assigned — eight each to Larnaca and Paphos. All passport control booths are now fully staffed, even during off-peak hours. Overtime shifts have also been introduced to ensure sufficient personnel during peak traffic periods.
In addition to these immediate measures, Cyprus is taking a systematic approach by actively recruiting new staff for the Department of Civil Registry and Migration. New recruits are undergoing training in modern border control systems and stress management, preparing them to provide efficient and friendly service under pressure.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport of Cyprus and airport operators are working on broader improvements to ensure a smooth travel experience throughout the summer. Priorities include:
