On July 9, the Municipality of Larnaca announced the installation of 100 personal safes at Mackenzie Beach, one of the city's most visited coastal spots, attracting thousands of locals and tourists every summer.
This new feature is part of a broader initiative to upgrade beach infrastructure and provide maximum comfort and safety for beachgoers.
Safe Storage for Valuables on the Beach
According to the official statement, the project aims to "systematically improve the quality of recreational services" and prevent thefts of personal belongings, which have unfortunately increased during the peak summer season.
The safes are compact, secure lockboxes that attach directly to beach umbrellas. Visitors can conveniently store valuables like:

Wallets
Passports and documents
Jewelry
These safes allow beachgoers to relax and enjoy swimming or walks along the shore without worrying about their belongings.
The rental cost for each safe is just €2.50, and early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Tourists appreciate the added sense of security and peace of mind, helping them feel more relaxed during their holiday.
Response to a Rise in Summer Thefts
