Gasoline and Hybrids Dominate Cyprus Car Market in Early 2025
In the first half of 2025, the Cyprus car market was dominated by gasoline and hybrid sedans, which continue to hold leading positions and gradually replace diesel models. Meanwhile, electric vehicles (EVs) remain a niche segment, struggling to achieve significant growth despite rising public interest.
According to the Cyprus Statistical Service, 20,004 passenger sedans were registered between January and June 2025, marking a 3% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Interestingly, sales rebounded in June, rising 9.7% year-on-year.
Shift in Fuel Preferences: Hybrids Catch Up to Gasoline
Gasoline sedans saw their market share drop from 49.5% to 43.6%.
Diesel vehicles continued their decline, now at just 8.6% of the market.
Hybrids showed impressive growth, accounting for 43% of all registrations in 2025.
A total of 8,593 hybrid sedans were registered, split almost evenly between new (4,119) and used (4,474) vehicles. Most were registered for private use, highlighting strong consumer demand for fuel-efficient alternatives without fully committing to electric mobility.
Electric Vehicles: Slow but Steady Growth
Electric sedans increased their share from 3.3% to 4.8% over the past year. In the first half of 2025, 961 electric cars were registered, with 926 designated for private ownership.
