Larnaca International Airport has added another prestigious accolade to its achievements.
At the 35th Annual Assembly of ACI Europe (Airports Council International), held in Athens on June 19, 2025, Cyprus’ main airport hub received a “Highly Commended” award in the category of European airports with 5 to 10 million passengers per year.
While Sofia Airport (Vasil Levski) took first place in this category, Larnaca Airport secured a strong second, earning praise for its service quality, sustainability efforts, and transport strategy. The award, granted by internationally recognized ACI Europe, marks a major milestone for Hermes Airports, the operator of Larnaca and Paphos airports.
Hermes Airports CEO Eleni Kaloyirou noted:

Larnaca’s growing reputation is also backed by data from the 2025 Air Connectivity Report published by ACI Europe. According to the report, Cyprus ranks among the top performers in Europe for air travel growth:
#1 in Europe for the growth rate of direct air connectivity (routes and flights) at Larnaca and Paphos Airports in 2025 vs. 2024 — an impressive 18% increase.
#2 in Europe for the overall increase in direct flights since 2019 — up 22%.
#3 in Europe for total air connectivity growth, including transfer flights — a rise of 8% since 2019.
These achievements highlight Cyprus’ dynamic development in the aviation sector and its increasing attractiveness as a year-round travel destination.
