Greece recorded another month of solid tourism growth this September, according to fresh figures from ELSTAT.
Arrivals at hotels, campsites and short-term collective accommodations increased by 0.7%, while overnight stays rose by 0.9% compared with the same month in 2024.
In total, the country welcomed 5,085,544 guests, who generated over 23.3 million overnight stays—an indicator that Greece remains a highly attractive destination even as the peak season begins to wind down.
Foreign visitors once again played the most significant role in sustaining the sector’s momentum. Their arrivals grew by 0.5% and overnight stays by 0.8%. International travelers accounted for an impressive 82.4% of all arrivals and 90.1% of total overnight stays, underlining the continued global appeal of Greek destinations and the tendency of foreign guests to stay longer. The average length of stay reached 4.6 nights, a positive trend for hospitality businesses, local markets and service providers.

Domestic tourism also showed encouraging growth. The number of Greek travelers staying in tourist accommodations rose by 1.6%, and their overnight stays increased by 2.3%. This sustained domestic activity helps support local economies—especially on islands and in resort areas—while complementing international demand.
Tourism analysts highlight that September traditionally ranks among the most favorable months for travel, thanks to mild weather and calmer tourist flows. Yet the growth recorded this year is particularly noteworthy. Despite increasing competition across the Mediterranean, Greece managed to strengthen its position and maintain robust visitor interest well into the shoulder season.
