On June 4, 2025, Cyprus celebrated an important milestone for everyone who values ecology, quality tourism, and coastal preservation.
The island hosted the official Blue Flag Award Ceremony — an international symbol of clean, safe, and environmentally responsible beaches and marinas.

This year, 64 beaches and 2 marinas across Cyprus received the Blue Flag, maintaining the country's leading position in the Mediterranean despite a slight decrease compared to 2024 (when 76 sites were awarded).

The municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia, which includes the popular Protaras resort area, earned the highest number of awards — 18 in total. This makes it not only a regional record-holder, but also a shining example of how tourism growth and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

Among the awarded beaches are both well-known tourist hotspots and hidden gems cherished for their natural beauty and eco-conscious management, including:
Armiropigado, Lombardi, Kapparis, Glyki Nero, Skoutarospilia, Ayia Triada, Minas, Vrysoudia, Louma, Pernera, Potami, Vrisi A, Vrisi B, Vrisi C, Protaras (Fig Tree Bay), Vizakia, Nissia Garden, and Nissia.

A Blue Flag beach meets strict international standards, including:

Crystal-clear, safe water for swimming

No nearby industrial or wastewater discharge

Clearly marked zones for swimming and water sports

No animal bathing allowed

Daily cleaning and maintenance

Waste bins and informational signage

Lifeguard services and accessible facilities for all visitors

Each year, Cyprus's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment selects one beach or marina to host a symbolic flag-raising ceremony. In 2025, this honor was awarded to the iconic Fig Tree Bay in Paralimni, a beach consistently ranked among Europe’s best.

For Cyprus, where tourism is a key economic sector, every Blue Flag is more than an award — it’s a testament to sustainable development. It proves that the island can welcome millions of visitors without compromising its commitment to nature, safety, and future generations.

The international recognition of Cyprus’s eco-standards continues to attract travelers seeking not just sun and sea, but quality and safety. This achievement belongs not only to the government, but also to every local community, worker, and volunteer who helps keep the island’s coasts clean, well-managed, and welcoming to all.
