Yerevan to Receive 171 New Buses from China

In the coming weeks, 171 new buses will arrive in Yerevan from China, aiming to significantly improve the city’s public transportation system and ensure more comfortable travel conditions for passengers.

The announcement was made by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, who emphasized that the new buses will help reduce the strain on the city’s overloaded public transport network.

Why Yerevan Needs New Buses

According to Avinyan, the overcrowding in Yerevan’s transport system is caused by two key issues:

Traffic congestion across the city.

Insufficient number of vehicles to serve existing routes as required by municipal standards.

Many of the current buses—particularly the purple ones that have been in service for over 10 years—frequently break down. The newly delivered buses will replace the outdated fleet and bring changes to several routes to enhance efficiency.

Future Transport Plans for Yerevan

The mayor also stated that more than 940 vehicles are needed to fully implement the new transportation network. Currently, the required number has not yet been met, and the city plans to acquire 18-meter, 12-meter, and 8.5-meter buses to expand the system.

New Public Transport Fares from September

Starting September 1, new fare regulations will come into effect:

Unlimited passes for 30, 90, and 365 days will be introduced.

Prices: 8,800 AMD per month (€21), 23,600 AMD per 3 months (€56), and 88,000 AMD per year (~€210).

These changes aim to provide passengers with more convenient and cost-effective travel options across all types of public transport.
