Archaeologists from Germany and Armenia have uncovered the ruins of a previously unknown early Christian church near the historic Armenian city of Artashat, making headlines in the archaeological world.
This remarkable structure, dated to the 4th century, is now considered the oldest confirmed church in Armenia ever identified through scientific excavation.

The ruins form an octagonal building, approximately 30 meters in diameter, with cruciform extensions—a sophisticated architectural layout for such an early period.
