The Cyprus Department of Public Works has officially launched a comprehensive five-year plan to modernize all bus stops across the island. The initiative aims to improve the public transport infrastructure and enhance the quality of service for both locals and tourists.
Where the Bus Stop Upgrades Will Happen
The upgrades will cover all major cities in southern Cyprus, including Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and the free areas of Famagusta. Here's a breakdown of the key locations:
Nicosia:
Renovations at Kantara, Eleonon, and Perikleous/Andrea Avraamidi streets in Strovolos.
New modern stops on Strovolou Avenue, Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, Lemesou Avenue, Atalassas Avenue, Larnakos Avenue, Nikis Avenue, Griva Digeni Avenue, and Iosef Chatziosif Street.
Limassol:
Upgrades on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, Griva Digeni Avenue, Franklin Roosevelt Avenue, Spyrou Araouzou/28th October Avenue, and Agia Fyla.
Paphos:
Improvements along Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, Athenon Avenue, Apostolou Pavlou Avenue, Ellados Avenue, Gladstonos, Evagora Pallikaridi, and Nikodimou Milona.
Larnaca:
Modernization on United States of America Avenue, Eleftherias Avenue, George Christodoulides Avenue, Athenon Avenue, Grigori Afxentiou Avenue, Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, and Ammochostou Avenue.
Free Areas of Famagusta:
New stops on Protaras Avenue, Cape Greco Avenue, and 1st April Avenue.

What’s Included in the New Smart Bus Stops?
Each new bus stop will be equipped with:
Real-time arrival displays
Audio and visual alerts for visually and hearing-impaired passengers
Modern shelter design for comfort and accessibility
The project will include the installation of:
350 modern smart bus stops
1,350 small covered shelters
650 large covered shelters
100 specialized large shelters for mountainous areas
Who's Building It?
The contract, worth €74 million, was awarded to AS Air Control Ltd & Amco. The contractor will not only install the new infrastructure but will also be responsible for maintaining all bus stops for a period of 10 years.
This investment marks a significant step in upgrading public transport in Cyprus, especially in high-traffic areas like Nicosia, Larnaca International Airport, Limassol Port, Paphos Old Town, and the tourist hubs of Ayia Napa and Protaras.
