August 2025 marked another strong month for Cyprus’ tourism industry.
According to data released by the Statistical Service, total tourist arrivals reached 602,026, recording an 8.5% increase compared with August 2024.
Between January and August 2025, more than 3 million visitors arrived on the island, reflecting a 10% year-on-year rise and confirming Cyprus’ position as one of the top Mediterranean holiday destinations.
The majority of visitors came from the United Kingdom, accounting for 32.1% of total arrivals. Israel followed with 17.5%, Poland with 7.0%, Germany with 4.6%, Sweden with 3.1%, and Romania with 3.0%. Leisure remained the dominant reason for travel, with 86.5% of arrivals choosing Cyprus for holidays. Visits to family and friends accounted for 11.4%, while business trips made up 2.1%.
The number of Cypriots returning from overseas travel also showed remarkable growth. In August 2025, 238,740 residents returned from abroad, an increase of 23.9% compared to 192,756 in the same month of 2024. Greece was the most popular destination, attracting 33.1% of returning travelers, followed by the UK with 6.8%, Russia with 5.1%, and Italy with 5.0%. Most trips were for leisure purposes (91.6%), while business travel accounted for 6.7%, studies for 1.3%, and other reasons for just 0.4%.
The August figures highlight not only the steady growth of tourism but also the rising mobility of Cypriot residents. Both inbound and outbound travel activity significantly contribute to the economy by supporting hotels, restaurants, transportation, and local businesses. This translates into consistent foreign exchange inflows and new employment opportunities across multiple sectors.
