The History Museum of Armenia has expanded its collection with a remarkable set of rare artifacts dating back to the Bronze and Iron Ages. These newly acquired treasures include:

A ritual axe from the 3rd millennium BCE

Sacrum artifacts from the 15th–13th centuries BCE

Daggers and other relics from the 12th–11th centuries BCE

The official handover ceremony was held on February 18. The items were donated by architect Agasi Knthehtsyan and Gevorg Nersisyan, Chairman of the Board at PARADIS and a member of the International Academy of Television and Radio.

A Gift to the Nation’s Cultural Heritage

Museum director David Poghosyan emphasized the historical value of the artifacts, stating:

“These donations were purchased with the donors’ own funds, and we are deeply grateful. We hope this act of generosity inspires others in our community—it’s a true form of patriotism.”

To honor the donation, the museum is planning to open a temporary exhibition hall dedicated to such gifts. However, Poghosyan noted that this will require time, as each item must undergo research and be accompanied by proper documentation and explanatory materials.

A Serendipitous Discovery

Agasi Knthehtsyan shared the story of how he stumbled upon the artifacts while exploring Vernissage, Yerevan’s famous outdoor market. During a casual walk, someone offered to show him a collection of old items. Recognizing their historical significance, he was immediately intrigued.

“I’ve always been drawn to Vernissage, hoping to find something meaningful. One day, I was asked if I’m interested in old things. I said yes, and when I saw the artifacts, I instantly recognized them from historian Konstantin Khudaverdyan’s book Generations of Hayk. My father was a close friend of Khudaverdyan, so I knew these forms were authentic,” said Knthehtsyan.

He asked the seller not to show or sell the items to anyone else. Later, together with Nersisyan, they made the decision to donate the artifacts to the museum, ensuring they become a lasting part of Armenia’s national heritage and accessible to the public.
