By the beginning of winter 2025, Larnaca will introduce a brand-new Smart Parking system designed to make finding a parking space faster, easier, and more efficient.
Installation is already underway at key locations: on Tassos Mitsopoulos Avenue near popular cafés and restaurants, at the large parking area by Mackenzie Beach, at the new municipal lot on Grigori Afxentiou Avenue opposite the Pancyprian Lyceum, and at the multi-storey parking facility near St. Lazarus Church on Pavlou Valsamaki Street.
The contract for supply, installation, and maintenance of the system was signed in June 2024. Under the agreement, the municipality will gain access to advanced software for parking management, including dynamic pricing models and special features for certain categories of users, such as local residents and people with disabilities.
The new system will operate via a mobile app, allowing drivers to check real-time availability of parking spaces. This will make parking in Larnaca quicker, smoother, and far less stressful for both residents and visitors.
The app will also display average parking durations during peak hours, enabling more efficient traffic flow management. At the same time, the municipality will be able to set flexible pricing policies, manage sensors, and ensure smooth operation across all connected parking areas.
Mayor Andreas Vyras stated that installation will be completed within a month and a half, after which the system will be fully operational. “By adopting a ticketless parking solution, Larnaca aims to increase efficiency and convenience across all municipal parking spaces,” he said.
Smart Parking is part of a broader initiative, “Larnaca Becomes a Smart City,” first announced in November 2023. The strategy includes a gradual rollout of digital services designed to improve everyday life for both residents and tourists – from modern parking management to sustainable, eco-friendly technologies integrated into city infrastructure.
The system will also prioritize social inclusion by offering dedicated options for people with disabilities, permanent residents, and service or delivery vehicles.
The introduction of Smart Parking is more than just a convenience – it’s also an environmental solution. By reducing the time drivers spend searching for available spaces, the city will lower CO₂ emissions and ease congestion in busy areas.
With tourism expected to grow further in 2025, particularly around Finikoudes promenade and Mackenzie Beach, the new parking system will play a vital role in helping Larnaca handle increased demand while keeping the city center accessible and efficient. Larnaca is stepping confidently into the digital age, transforming itself into a modern European city ready for the challenges of the future.
