Car ownership in Cyprus continues to rise at a rapid pace. Today, most Cypriot households own at least two vehicles.
From January to August 2024 alone, 9,217 sedans were imported to the island — a 13.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Interestingly, around 60% of all sedan registrations are still for used cars, showing the ongoing popularity of second-hand vehicles on the island. In contrast, the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) remains relatively low, accounting for just 3.3% of total imports during this period. Hybrid vehicles perform slightly better, making up 36.8% of all imported passenger cars — a sign that Cypriots are gradually leaning towards more eco-friendly options.
