The Cyprus Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has officially signed a contract for the construction of two new Park & Ride facilities in the Limassol district.
The agreement was signed by the Director of the Department of Public Works, Eleftherios Eleftheriou, on behalf of the government, and Costas Lambris, representing the contracting company Spacialogic Construction CY Ltd.
This project marks a key milestone in Cyprus’ long-term strategy for Sustainable Urban Mobility and aims to modernize the country’s transport infrastructure.
The new facilities will be located within the municipal boundaries of Kato Polemidia (western Limassol) and Ayios Tychonas (eastern Limassol). These strategic locations were chosen to serve commuters entering the city’s busiest areas, helping to reduce congestion in the city center.
The Kato Polemidia station will include a single-storey building of approximately 260 square meters and at least 190 parking spaces. It will also feature six dedicated bays for buses and heavy vehicles, equipped with electric charging stations to support the transition to green transportation. A pedestrian bridge will be constructed to connect the parking area with Walt Disney Street, ensuring safe and convenient access for passengers.

In Eastern Limassol, the facility will consist of a 215-square-meter building, a bus stop with two loading bays, and around 160 parking spaces. Both sites will be equipped with advanced lighting, security cameras, and smart navigation systems to enhance user safety and comfort.
The project is part of Cyprus’ Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and is co-financed by the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). The total investment amounts to €3.85 million (excluding VAT). It includes a full project cycle — from design and construction to 12 years of operation and maintenance, ensuring durability and long-term efficiency.
Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with completion expected within 14 months. The development of the Park & Ride network represents a major step toward a sustainable, low-emission transport future for Limassol. By encouraging residents to leave their private cars outside the city center and use public transport, the project will help reduce traffic congestion, lower CO2 emissions, and improve air quality.
In the long run, the Park & Ride system will become part of a broader integrated transport network, which includes bike lanes, dedicated bus routes, and intelligent transport systems. These initiatives are key elements of Limassol’s transformation into a smart city, where technology, sustainability, and quality of life work hand in hand.
