The Cyprus Statistical Service has published new data on the registration of passenger cars in Cyprus.
According to the report, in April 2024, the island nation registered 3,662 cars, which is a 60.5% increase compared to the same month last year. From January to April, a total of 13,851 cars were imported into Cyprus. Of these, 6,073 were new cars (43.8%) and 7,778 were used cars (56.2%).
A noteworthy trend in Cyprus is the growing demand for hybrid vehicles. Interest in gasoline-powered cars is gradually decreasing. From January to April 2024, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for 48.9% of total car sales, compared to 60.1% during the same period in 2023. On the other hand, hybrid cars increased their market share to 37.4%, up from 26.6% last year. Diesel-powered vehicles ranked third, with their market share dropping from 11% to 10% year-on-year. Electric cars are also becoming more popular, although at a slower pace than hybrids. From January to April 2024, electric vehicles made up 3.6% of the total market sales, compared to 2.3% in the same period of 2023.

When it comes to car brands, Toyota led the way in registrations from January to April 2024. A total of 2,445 Toyota cars were imported into Cyprus in the first four months of the year. Mazda came in second with 1,497 cars, followed by Nissan with 1,474. Kia ranked fourth with 943 registrations, and Mercedes-Benz rounded out the top five with 798 registrations. The top ten also included brands like BMW (738), Volkswagen (690), Hyundai (449), Honda (339), and Land Rover (306).
For new cars, the most popular brand among Cypriots was Kia, with 902 registrations from January to April 2024. Nissan ranked second with 748 registrations, and Toyota took third place with 588. Volkswagen (550) and Hyundai (402) followed. The sixth to tenth positions were filled by brands like BMW (301), Mercedes (245), Skoda (196), Audi (174), and Ford (151).
In the used car segment, Toyota dominated with 1,857 registrations. Mazda followed in second place with 1,456, and Nissan came third with 726 registrations. Mercedes ranked fourth with 553, and BMW fifth with 437. Other popular used car brands in Cyprus included Honda (294), Land Rover (170), Suzuki (163), Volkswagen (140), and Lexus (118).
