The number of tourists visiting Armenia in 2024 decreased by approximately 7% compared to 2023.
This was recently announced by Armenia's Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, as he summed up the results of the past year.
“In December 2024, Armenia welcomed 134,000 visitors, which is around 2,000-3,000 fewer tourists than the same period in 2023. In total, the country hosted 2.215 million tourists in 2024, a 7% decline compared to 2023,” Papoyan stated.
According to him, the decrease in tourist arrivals is primarily attributed to a reduction in visitors from Russia. However, there was an increase in tourists from countries such as Georgia, China, the UAE, India, France, and Iran. Papoyan highlighted that the goal for the Tourism Committee is to reach 2.5 million tourists by 2026.
Russia remained the leader in terms of the number of visitors to Armenia in 2024, with 922,200 Russian nationals arriving, representing 43.1% of the total number of tourists. Georgia (279,300 tourists) and Iran (175,800 tourists) ranked second and third, while the United States and India rounded out the top five with 59,600 and 43,500 visitors, respectively.
The peak of tourist activity occurred in August, with 300,919 visitors to Armenia. The majority of tourists (62%) arrived by air, landing at Zvartnots International Airport. Among the land border crossings, Bagratashen remained the busiest, while Ayrum saw the lowest traffic.
