The Statistical Service of Cyprus has published its latest report on tourism activity for May 2024, revealing a slight increase in visitor numbers, but a decrease in average tourist spending.

Tourist Arrivals Up Slightly in May 2024

According to official statistics, 421,400 tourists visited Cyprus in May 2024, up from 420,076 during the same month last year — marking a 0.3% increase in arrivals.

However, tourism revenue dropped by 0.2%, from €311 million in May 2023 to €310.5 million in May 2024. This indicates that while more people are coming to Cyprus, they are spending slightly less during their stay.

How Much Are Tourists Spending in Cyprus?

The average tourist expenditure in May 2024 was €736.82, compared to €740.36 in May 2023 — a 0.5% decrease.

On a daily basis, the decline in spending suggests a shift in traveler behavior, possibly due to changing economic conditions or travel habits.

Despite the slight monthly dip, overall tourism revenue from January to May 2024 increased by 3.1%, reaching €751.2 million compared to €728.6 million in the same period last year. This reflects a positive year-to-date trend in Cyprus’s tourism sector.
