According to the latest data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus, the country’s automotive market experienced a remarkable boost in September 2025, with total vehicle registrations rising by 25.2% compared to the same month last year. In total, 5,544 vehicles were registered, up from 4,428 in September 2024.
The strongest growth was recorded in the passenger car segment, which increased by 26.8% to 4,364 units.
Over the period January–September 2025, total vehicle registrations climbed by 3.6%, reaching 40,212, compared with 38,819 in the same period of 2024. Among these, 31,325 were passenger cars — a 3.2% rise year-on-year.
The market composition continues to evolve. New vehicles accounted for 37.7% (11,806 units), while used cars made up 62.3% (19,519 units). The rental car segment performed particularly well, recording a sharp 32.6% increase to 4,559 registrations.

Cyprus is clearly shifting toward cleaner mobility solutions. The share of electric vehicles (EVs) grew from 3.6% in 2024 to 4.7% in 2025, while hybrid models jumped from 36.7% to an impressive 44%. Conversely, petrol-powered cars declined to 42.8% from 49.7%, and diesel vehicles fell to 8.5% from 9.9% over the same period.
The commercial vehicle sector also showed steady improvement. Registrations of trucks rose by 6%, reaching 4,569, and buses increased to 132, compared to 119 in 2024. Within the freight sector, rental vehicles grew by 17.5%, heavy trucks by 6%, and light commercial vehicles by 5.7%, while road tractors (trailers) remained stable at 170 units.
Two-wheeler trends were more mixed. Registrations of mopeds (under 50cc) dropped sharply from 603 to 170, while motorcycles above 50cc surged by 20.1%, reaching 3,522 units.
Experts highlight that the rise in hybrid and electric vehicles is driven by EU environmental initiatives, government tax incentives, and the expanding EV charging network across Cyprus. Analysts predict that by 2026, the share of eco-friendly vehicles could exceed 50% of all new registrations — marking a historic milestone for the island’s automotive industry.
